Catching with Matt Markland - NZ Olympic team skateboarder
Matt embodies the Cartel attitude of been 'Good At It'. A qualified diesel mechanic by trade Matt has put the day job on hold to chase the dream of a career in skateboarding and Olympic glory and so far the risk has been paying off.
Whilst scrapping by and saving what he can to fund the dream, giving skate lessons, and working out of his own driveway as a part time mechanic the sacrifices and grind have been paying dividends. Matt has been picked up by High Performance sport New Zealand as part of the the New Zealand Olympic team seeking to qualify for skateboarding's Olympic debut at the tokyo 2021 games.
As well as becoming a national representative Matt has also picked up sponsorship with Cartel Clothing, New Balance, and Cheapskates among some others.
Matt swung by the Cartel HQ and studios this morning to pick up his new Cartel summer 20/21 gears and let us know what the plan is for the summer in this crazy Covid word!
With the borders closed for the foreseeable future Matt is going to be keeping it local this summer. Heading off to Hastings to compete this weekend and next and then onward to Auckland to skate and shoot for an upcoming street edit!
If you run into Matt this summer make sure to go and say 'hi' and ask him for a Cartel sticker, he has a massive stack of them!
Be Good or Be Good At It.
